Tocharian was the [[Indo-European]] language spoken by people in the desert region of Western [[China]] and shows similarities to [[Celtic]] and [[Italic]] languages, suggesting its speakers had made the long migration from Europe at some stage. The Tocahrians mummified their dead, and finds of cloth on these mummies show remarkable similarities to tartans used e.g. by Celts like those in [[Scotland]]. The surviving bodies show that the Tocharians were of European appearance and not like their Chinese or Mongolian neighbours.
