Master of Arts (from the Latin, ''Atrium Magistri''), is the earliest post-graduate degree established at early universities. At [[University of Oxford|Oxford]] and [[University of Cambridge|Cambridge]], it was originally awarded automatically to graduates who remained in their colleges an additional year. Later, with the establishment of earned Doctoral degrees, Master of Arts was more often awarded in passing to those enrolled in Doctoral programs. In recent years, many new Master's level degrees have been established for professional credentials, such as the MFA (Master of Fine Arts) and the MBA (Master of Business Administration)
