On October 26th, 1954, the Comics Magazine Association of America, Inc. formed the [[Comics Code Authority]] and the Comic Code to self-regulate the comic industry. Since that time the Comic Code has been updated and amended to allow for things like the depiction of narcotics or homosexuality, but the purpose remains the same. At this time, the most notable comics publishers to still submit comics for CCA review are [[Archie Comics]] and [[DC Comics]] (which does not submit many of their comics, such as the [[Vertigo]] line). [[Marvel Comics]] dropped the CCA in favor of it's own ratings system.
