The '''NAACP''' (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) is an organization that was founded in 1909 to work for the rights and advancement of [[African Americans]] (then called "Colored").  The NAACP is the largest organization of its kind with 400,000 members.  Through its history, the organization saw a number of changes occur for the group it represented, from the removal of [[Jim Crow]] laws, to the end of [[segregation]], and to the implementation of [[affirmative action]].

Today the NAACP has become a highly political entity, strongly bending the laws of acceptability for a non-profit organization, and in some cases flaunting them.  Due to this politicization, [[President]] [[George W. Bush]] skipped meeting with the NAACP for a number of years instead favoring other organizations that represent the African American community, but are less politicized.
