A [[Bantu]] language widely spoken in East Africa. Swahili served as a trade language across Africa, and therefore is known today by millions of people in many countries.
Like most African languages, Swahili phonology is distinguished by the presence of many tones and so-called ''click'' consonants. Syntactically, Swahili is a largely isolating OSV language, although in certain tenses it manifests a split-ergative case system.
