Apologists for communism follow the idea that true communism from its sources in marxist theory has infact never been properly apply on a large scale for any length of time due to the fact that capitalists and conservatives are never happier than when they are pretending to be socialist. No true socialist leader has ever commited an act of geonocide. Infact in simply commiting the act the leader would become "non communist". Many "apologists" also dislike the idea of been called apologists as they have nothing to apologise for!

Apologists for communism like to say that the atrocities of communism were not really because of communism.

They say that Communist ideals were internally contradicted, so no government ever met the official definition of "communist".  

Many states have, however, proclaimed themselves as communist.
