'''Zell Miller''' was a United States Senator from [[Georgia]], of the [[Democratic Party]], and previously was Lieutenant Governor and then Governor of the state of Georgia. He served one term in the Senate, where he was first appointed in 2000 to fill a vacant seat and then easily won a special election later that same year. A [[Conservative Democrat]], he became increasingly alienated from the Democratic Party's left-wing activist base during his term in the Senate. He resisted calls to change parties though, saying he was "born a Democrat and will die a Democrat". He then wrote the book ''A National Party No More'' about his differences with the modern Democratic Party leadership.
