It is generally considered [[deceit]]ful to edit out important things to make a Quote "good" for yourside. For example:
"I hold many reservations about the existance of God, for there are many things I cannot explain, but for today, I do not belive in God because I find it inconvienant". quoted as
"I...do not belive in God..." would be decietful, since clearly that is not what the author means.
