Though none of the [[Beatles]] were as successful on their own as they were as a group, John Lennon was considered by many to have the most raw talent. He struggled with drug addiction and an obsession with beating the monkey, however, and several of his songs related to his habit, such as "Cold Turkey." According to Philip Norman's biography, as a teenager Lennon was dared by a friend to [[beat the monkey]] ten times in one day. He reportedly only managed to orgasm nine times, and therefore lost the bet along with a great deal of stamina. This unholy act is quite likely the root of the anti-[[Christian]], anti-[[nationalistic]], and [[socialist]] views Lennon would promote during much of his adult life, as well as of his unnatural attraction for Japanese monkeys. (See [[The Evils of Beating the Monkey]])
