The use of [[illegal drugs]] and [[alcoholism]] is strongly correlated with an adult abusing a child.<ref>http://www.childwelfare.gov/systemwide/laws_policies/statutes/drugexposed.cfm</ref>  Two-thirds of all reported cases of child abuse involve an abuser who used drugs or alcohol.<ref>Famularo et al, <u>Parental substance abuse and the nature of child maltreatment</u>, ''Child Abuse & Neglect'', vol. 16 iss. 4 pg. 475–83</ref> However, less obvious factors are suspected to influence an adults propensity towards child abuse.  Adults who were abused as children are much more likely to abuse children themselves.
