The '''Battle of Fair Oaks''' was a battle in the [[American Civil War]], which lasted from May to June, 1862.  It happened when General [[Joseph Johnston]] made plans to stop the advancing armies of General [[George McClellan]].  The actual attack did little to change the positions of either army.  During the engagement, General Johnston was wounded and General Gustavus Smith took brief command.  President [[Jefferson Davis]] replaced him with General [[Robert E.
