→‎I'm confused: Archive of Civil War letters appears to contradict your statement - these are not at all well-written - especially those of the average soldier.

:::I've also found an excellent [http://www.civilwararchive.com/LETTERS/letters.htm archive of Civil War letters]. Having read through them - especially those of the less educated rank-and-file soldiers, I can't find any basis to support your assertion that language skills have decreased since the Civil War. If anything, the introduction paragraphs for each letter are in many cases far more eloquent than the letters themselves. [[User:TracyS|TracyS]] 12:07, 19 June 2011 (EDT)
