Speaking in terms of academic standards, the state determines academic standards for homeschooling...one could make the argument that homeschooled high school is more state-run than the University of Michigan.

::I'm talking about the actual administration of the school. At it's highest level, the school is run by a board of regents, which is elected statewide. Something like, say, a state treasurer's office, if the position is also elected state wide, would be considered state run, wouldn't it? And yes, this board doesn't directly control every minute element of the school, but that doesn't mean they don't run it. The board of directors of a company doesn't control every single action either, but they are still considered in charge. I worry somewhat that you may be trying to cover the fact that the liberal attitude of the school likely comes from the fact that it is not totally run by the private sector, which has been proven to be much more efficient.--[[User:MorrisF|MorrisF]] 20:37, 17 August 2011 (EDT)

I am an alumnus of the University.  It is insulting to me that somebody would suggest that the state determined the academic standards by which I earned my degrees.
