According to the US Department of Defense, over 3,200 U.S., and over 300 troops from coalition countries have died in the war.<ref>[http://www.defenselink.mil Department of Defense]</ref> Another 24476 have been wounded <ref>http://www.antiwar.com/casualties/</ref>, some so seriously that they would have certainly died in the Vietnam era.  Only today's advanced medical techniques and methods of transporting the wounded have prevented a significant number of those causalites from accumilating as Killed In Action.
