563-483 BC, India: Hindu prince who founded Buddhism, known as "the Buddha," his teachings were written down 400 years after his death, taught 4 Noble Truths, 8-Fold Path.

Siddhartha Guatama lived from 563 to 483 BC in India.  He was a [[Hindu]] prince who founded Buddhism. He was motivated by the suffering in the old and sick people about him, especialy be an instance when he saw a corpse. Siddhartha meditated under a tree for a long time, and when he emerged from his meditation, he proclaimed himself to be enlightened.  Siddhartha was later simply known as "the Buddha,"  His teachings were written down 400 years after his death.  His primary teachings were the 4 Noble Truths, 8-Fold Path.
