Tommy Edwards
Thomas Edwards was born on February 17, 1922, in Richmond, Virginia, where as a pre-teen he was already singing and entertaining. As a young man with a voice that was often compared to that of Nat "King" Cole, he moved to New York City and sang demo recordings of songs that would be presented for others to record.
Signed by MGM Records, in 1951 Tommy Edwards hit the Rhythm & Blues charts with âAll Over Againâ and would have a pop success with âThe Morning Side of the Mountainâ that reached top ten on the Hit Parade. In 1952 his âYou Win Againâ peaked at #13 on the pop music surveys.
However, six years would pass before he tasted success again with a giant chart topping multi million selling #1 hit, âItâs All In The Gameâ. It was a song he had first recorded in 1951. It would be followed by âPlease Love Me Foreverâ, âLove Is All We Needâ, âPlease Mr. Sunâ and a remake of his earlier hit, âThe Morning Side of the Mountainâ.
Two more hits would come from, âMy Melancholy Babyâ and âI Really Donât Want To Knowâ.
Tommy Edwards died on October 22, 1969 of a brain aneurysm in his hometown of Richmond, Virginia. He was just 47 years of age.[1]
