I appreciate that you must get 100's of emails per day (or possibly per hour!) but I hope you print this one day because I think others could learn and grow from what I am going to ask and the answer you provide. I used to be a very commited Christian but, over the last 5 or so years my faith has waned. I know God exists but I don't feel him near anymore. I find myself overwhelmed by modern science and, more importantly its conclusions. How can I be true to our God and his teachings in the face of such onslaught and "sureity"?

Thanks for writing in. You expressed a desire to be true to God and his teachings, which is an admirable desire. Itâs also a good thing that your concerned about the strength of your faith.
If someone expressed a desire to be physically healthy, there are certain things a person could recommend, like a good diet, an exercise routine, etc. Someone wonât become physically healthy by simply sitting on the couch eating Doritos while watching a fitness show on TV. Similarly, there are specific things you can do to help your faith grow and become strong. First, it is critically important to be in prayer, and to read Scripture. This is the spiritual equivalent of eating good food. Second, avoid things that you know will be detrimental to your faith at this point in your growth. In your case, that might mean not overindulging in evolutionist sites, etc. Instead, look for alternatives that will strengthen your faith, such as the information available on creation.com and other biblical apologetics ministries. I would also emphasize the importance of being involved in a church with a body of believers that can hold you accountable; no oneâs faith can grow in a vacuum; we werenât meant to be âsolo Christiansâ.
It would be particularly helpful if you understood that the scientific evidence does not speak for itself. All evidence and observations are viewed in the light of a prebelief that bring to the evidence. A thorough grasp of this would help you not to be so intimidated by the claims of secular science.
