Perhaps it is an American term then? My Oxford and Collins dictionaries don't mention it, and it is difficult in this part of the world to find good American dictionaries.

But one day I'll come to America. I'll buy an American dictionary and I'll learn what amescruft means. That is my American dream. Ames. I mean, Amen.
