Lacrosse is a field sport in which the opposing teams try to score goals by launching a ball into the opposing team's net. The ball must be carried and thrown with sticks that have a cradle of webbing to hold it.

The play is similar to that of field hockey and derives from a traditional activity of Native North Americans. Lacrosse is the first national sport of Canada, and now shares the status with hockey.

Major League Lacrosse and the National Lacross League are two professional Lacrosse Leagues in North America which attract crowds and are building a fan following. The name, Lacrosse comes from French, "la crosier" because it resembled the staff carried by priests.
