Mohamed Morsi is the current president of Egypt. The head of the Freedom and Justice party, the Muslim Brotherhood's political wing, Morsi is Egypt's first democratically-elected civilian president.

Morsi was born in 1951, and studied engineering at Cairo University, before receiving his Ph.D. from the University of Southern California in 1982.. He then went on to teach at California State University, Northridge. After teaching there for some years he returned to Egypt, and was an MP from 2000 - 2005.

On November 22, 2012 Morsi had approved a series of decrees exempting himself and members of Parliament from legal challenges against any decisions he may take in his rule.
