Florida is located in the southeastern region of the United States and on March 3rd, 1845 became the twenty-seventh state to enter into the union. Florida was once a member of the Confederate States of America. The capital of Florida is Tallahassee and the largest city is Jacksonville. The current governor of Florida is Charlie Crist, a Republican. Although Florida's nickname is the "Sunshine State," severe weather is a common occurrence in the state.
