The Boxer Rebellion occurred in China in 1900. This rebellion was a response to reformers attempting to modernize China. In 1900 the Chinese in northern China revolted against western foreigners particularly Christians. The revolt was secretly supported by the Manchu Government and led by the Society of Harmonious Fists, nicknamed "Boxers”, hence the Boxer Rebellion.
