Strip mining

Strip mining (surface) is a method used on flat terrain to recover coal by mining long strips successively. The material excavated from the strip being mined is deposited in the strip previously mined.

Environmentalists object to strip mining due to the long-lasting scars it leaves on the surface of the earth.
