Homophony

Homophony denotes a musical texture with multiple voices which move in the same rhythm, but not in parallel motion. It also describes a musical texture in which one voice is the melody, which is accompanied by other voices.
A typical example of the first type of homophony is a typical four-part hymn, whereas a typical example of the second type is a Chopin nocturne.
