Norman Lamont is a British Conservative politician, most famous for his role as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 1990 to 1993. Lamont, as Chief Secretary to the Treasury, ran John Major's campaign for the party leadership in 1990, and was subsequently promoted to Chancellor. Lamont's credibility was heavily damaged by the events of Black Wednesday, and by a series of quotes ("Singing in the bath" at leaving the ERM, and "Green shoots of recovery".). He was removed as Chancellor in a reshuffle in 1993, after being offered the position of Environment Secretary, which he turned down.
