The slogan "Define your terms" is used by philosophers and other scholars who are earnestly trying to discover and present the truth. Clarity of communication is greatly helped by the use of terms which have agreed-upon meanings. Unclear words, or terms which are used one way by one side and another way by another side in debate, lead to confusion and consternation.
