George Wishart (c. 1513 – March 1, 1546) was a Scottish Christian who travelled through Scotland as an itinerant preacher where he went from place to place, in danger of his life, denouncing what he perceived to be the evils of the Papacy. He was eventually renditioned to the Roman Catholic Cardinal Beaton who held a "show trial". He was then murdered by burning at the stake on 1 March 1546 in St Andrews where he is commemmorated as a martyr to the faith on the Martyrs' Monument.
