Hypotonic solution

A hypotonic solution is a solution in which the concentration of solutes is less than that of the cell which resides in the solution.[1] This will cause osmotic pressure to drive water into the cell. In the case of animal cells, the cell will swell until it bursts. Plant cells are protected from this by their strong cell walls.
