Ludwig Bieberbach was a German mathematician in the first half of the twentieth century. He invented a concept called the Bieberbach conjecture, which later was proved by a French-American math teacher at Purdue University and renamed in his honor as de Brange's theorem. Bieberbach's first dissertation was about groups of Euclidean motions. Bieberbach was right-wing in his political views and was a strong supporters of the Nazis after they came to power.
