Peter Abelard (1079-1142) was a prominent French medieval scholastic who used logic and questioning to discuss issues of religious controversy in his Sic et Non ("Yes and No").
Other prominent scholastics in that time period were Anselm of Canterbury (St. Anselm) and Thomas Aquinas.
Abelard had an affair with Heloise, one of his students. In later life he became a monk.
