Roustan

Roustan or Rustam was the nickname for Napoleon Bonaparte's most famous bodyguard, whose real name was Rostom Raza. He was a Mamluk from Egypt, and was probably of Georgian and/or Armenian descent.
Like other Mamluks, Routsan was kidnapped as a child to become a slave soldier. He was later sold as a slave in Cairo. In 1798 he was presented a young slave to General Napoleon Bonaparte in 1798, for whom Roustan served as his bodyguard until 1814. He then married and did not follow Napoleon to his exile to Elba.
