Srivijaya was a state that was based on the Indonesian island of Sumatra between the seventh and the eleventh centuries A.D. It amassed wealth and power by a combination of selective adaptation of Indian technology and concepts and through control of the lucrative trade routes between India and China. The kingdom also displayed a range of diplomatic skills in holding together a disparate real of island and coastal territories.
