St Kilda

An archipelago in the North Atlantic Ocean, and an integral part of Scotland. In 1901 the St Kilda group had a population of around 150, but the last of these were evacuated in the 1930s. There is now an RAF missile tracking station on Hirta, the largest island of the group.
St Kilda trivia
There was no Saint Kilda. The name derives from a mistaken transcription by a medieval clerk of the name Skilda.
