U.S. President Donald Trump responded to several terrorist attacks (inside the continental United States) with a proposed "travel ban". His intent was to restrict immigration from countries that are rife with terrorism – as a temporary emergency measure – until the government could figure out a long term solution.

President Donald Trump has signed a new executive order blocking the arrival of most travelers from six conflict-prone countries for 90 days ...[1]

The proposed ban, actually a temporary suspension, was blocked for several months by various federal judges. In late June 2017, however, the U.S. Supreme Court lifted the block and agreed to hear the case.[2]

Trump said:

Today's unanimous Supreme Court decision is a clear victory for our national security. It allows the travel suspension for the six terror-prone countries and the refugee suspension to become largely effective.[3]
