Trilateral Commission is a think tank founded by banker David Rockefeller. George H.W. Bush and Jimmy Carter were both members prior to their presidential campaigns. It was unpopular with many, conservatives such as Ronald Reagan and Jesse Helms.
According to its website the Trilateral Commission was formed in 1973 by private citizens of Japan, European Union countries, United States and Canada to foster closer cooperation among these core industrialized areas of the world with shared leadership responsibilities in the wider international system.[1]
