The Mayflower Compact provides historical evidence for the religious beginnings of our nation. It begins, "In the name of God, Amen.", and sets forth the idea that the Pilgrims had come to the New World to advance the Christian faith. The Compact states, "having undertaken for the glory of God and advancement of the Christian faith, and honor of our King and country...[we] combine ourselves into a civil body politic..."
