Dan Quayle

James Dan Quayle (1947 - present) was the vice president under George H. W. Bush. He had a much publicized feud with Murphy Brown, who was a fictional single mother. Dan Quayle said that she was immoral and there was a big fight in the media. Quayle was criticized for debating the lifestyle of a person who did not actually exist. He was also criticised for misspelling "potato" as "potatoe," but is remembered as a loyal Republican and loyal conservative in hindsight, advocating a conservative agenda and for traditional values.

Quayle was the first chairman of the National Space Council and the head of the Council on Competitiveness. Compared to the next few Vice Presidents, Al Gore and Dick Cheney, Dan Quayle had a limited role in policymaking because he was viewed as a political liability after being portrayed by a buffoon in the media.
