King Vittorio Emanuele II (in English, Victor Emmanuel II, 1820–1878) was a king of Piedmont, Savoy and Sardinia, and, from 1861, the first King of Italy. He led a revolution in northern Italy in the nineteenth century that helped unify the nation of Italy. He was assisted by his Prime Minister Count Cavour.
