The Rosetta stone was a stone which enabled the decipherment of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs. It carried the same message, the Decree of Memphis, in three different scripts: Greek, demotic Egyptian, and hieroglyphics. [1] It was discovered in Rosetta by a French soldier in 1798.
- The decipherment of the Egyptian texts on the Rosetta Stone opened up a new and vitally important field of study to the historian and phililogist, and above all to the students of the Bible.[1]
