Anglican views on abortion

The Anglican church lacks a clear position on abortion.
The General Synod, the governing body of the Church of England, has passed resolutions stating their official position:
| “ | The Church of England combines strong opposition to abortion with a recognition that there can be - strictly limited - conditions under which it may be morally preferable to any available alternative.[1] | ” |
In attempting to clarify when abortion may be a morally preferable option, the General Synod resolved in 1983:
| “ | That in situations where the continuance of a pregnancy threatens the life of the mother a termination of pregnancy may be justified and that there must be adequate and safe provision in our society for such situations.[1] | ” |
There is still room for the Church to clarify which "strictly limited" conditions are required for abortion to be morally preferable.
