Edwin Hubble

Edwin Hubble (November 29, 1889 â September 28, 1953) was an American astronomer. Among his contributions to the field of astronomy was the discovery that the vast majority of galaxies have red-shifted light, indicating that they are receding from the point of reference (Earth). These observations provided support for Einstein's General Theory of Relativity, and support scientific models of a "Big Bang" origin of the universe. The Hubble Space Telescope is named after him.
