Corn flakes

Corn flakes is a breakfast cereal created by Dr. John Harvey Kellogg, a vegetarian and former Seventh Day Adventist and director of the Battle Creek Sanitarium in Michigan. It was intended to be an anaphrodisiac foodstuff which reduced sinful urges in males (onanism). The Kellogg Toasted Corn Flake Company formed by his brother (William Keith Kellogg) promoted corn flakes outside of the sanitarium and abandonded many of his brother's teachings (such as lacing the cereals with sugar and other stimulating foodstuffs.
The company's experience during the Great Depression is a subject for teaching about economics.[1]
