The standards rules of boxing, drafted in 1867 under the name and patronage of the Marquess of Queensbury. They formed the basis of medern glove fighting as distinct from earlier bare-knuckle contests. The rules requred the wearing of gloves and rounds of three minutes' duration interspresed with a minute of rest and prohibited wrestling.
