A red state is a state that has voted for the republican candidate in a presidential election. The term comes from the habit of news networks coloring Republican states red.
Voters in red states are generally conservative. Red states are noted for a commitment to conservative Christian morality, pro-life, family values, and a desire to reduce the tax burden. Red states are generally in the southern and midwestern United States.
