WMD

Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) refers to nuclear, biological or chemical weapons so powerful that they can kill many thousands or even millions of people. The term was most commonly used as a justification for the American invasion of Iraq in 2003 and the overthrow of Saddam Hussein, who the United States' government claimed was building WMD and that this constituted a threat to its national security. This claim is now widely disputed, as no WMDs have yet been found.
