March is the third month of the year, coming after February and before April, named after the Roman god of war, Mars. During Roman era, it was the first month of the year, thus explaining the names of September, October, November and December (respectively seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth in Latin, referring to their former relatives positions in the Roman calendar).
