Chartres Cathedral

The cathedral at Chartres, France, was the first and one of the best-known Gothic structures in the world. Construction began on June 10, 1194 after a fire destroyed the existing structure.
It is prominent for its windows and detail in sculpture. The two towers on its west facade have difference architectural designs because they were built 300 years apart and reflect differences in architectural designs for their periods.
