The Evangelization of England is the process of how England became a Christian Country. Two names shine in this history, that of Pope Gregory the Great, and Archbishop Saint Augustine of Canterbury, who with around 40 monks succeeded in bringing large numbers of the English to Christ, by the Grace of God, and for the Glory of God. These were the men who conceived of the Evangelization of England, then a largely Pagan Country (like most of Europe and much of the ancient world before Christianity), and by diligent labors and prayers, brought it about. One of our main sources for historical information about this time period is St. Bede the Venerable's Ecclesiastical History of England. [1]
