A switch hitter is an ambidextrous baseball player who can hit from either the right or left side of the plate. This is an advantage because left-handed hitters tend to have greater success with right-handed pitchers and vice versa, so a switch hitter is versatile enough to have the potential for success with any type of pitcher.
