First aid

Immediate emergency care given to an injured individual while waiting for an ambulance or private physician to arrive on-scene. First aid is not a substitute for proper diagnosis and treatment. First aid is sometimes incorrectly used to refer to self-care, i.e. if you get a small cut, (such as a paper cut), wash out and bandage.
